whenever photographers ask me to document their families, i consider it the best compliment. i photographed the espedal family last year as well, and what i said then still holds ... they are just so wonderful to be around. i love how intentionally and simply they live, surrounded by a community of like-minded people in a literal garden. we spent some time inside and outside in the garden. we walked to get pizza and had dinner. they didn't want to do anything that wouldn't reflect their real routines or evenings. and so we went with whatever would have occurred with or without my presence, and it was perfection in that way. <3
